Our Process

As a full service design firm, we capture the essence of your business with creative strategies that build trust and loyalty with your customers. From logos to websites, packaging, promotions, print and digital, we use the best tools for the task and tailor our approach to get your message to your target audience.

FROM CUE: We see design as a problem-solving discipline, where uncovering the right questions informs purposeful, creative exploration. When creative expression answers real challenges in inspired ways, design connects emotionally and communicates effectively.

  • We start by listening; getting to know you and your business so we can clearly define the best materials for your needs & goals.

One of the best parts of our job is working with our clients. By learning about your business, and your vision for the future, we have context for what needs to be done. Together, we explore the various elements of your product or service to define those things that appeal to your customers and differentiate you from your competitors. We also like to visit your facility and/or retail locations to help us see how our work will reflect and impact your brand. These ‘tours’ always result in great information and insights that inevitably influence the design work. We appreciate that you are investing the time to get to know us, which is why we will take the time to get to know you, and fully understand what you want to achieve and why. Over the course of a couple hours, you’ll have a good idea of how we work, and we’ll be able to accurately clarify the direction and scope of the project in order to establish a timeline and budget that best suits your needs.

  • We do our homework; researching the market and establishing the direction so everyone has their input and approval of the approach.

Upon approval of the quote and scope of work, we dig even deeper. Abraham Lincoln was quoted as saying “ Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe.” Once we know about you and your goals, we take the time to research the other businesses in your market space - what they’re doing, how it’s working, and how you compare. We know that one of the keys to building a successful brand is the ability to stand out amongst the ever-growing crowd of competitors. We combine that research with your insights and our design & marketing experience to tailor a strategy that is uniquely yours. With all the footwork done, we meet again to discuss the findings, review early thoughts on design directions, and then the fun begins…

  • With our tools, talent and experience, we design professional materials that are true to your brand and create that 'wow' factor.

With a clear focus and agreed upon direction for the brand and project at hand, we dive into the creative process. Design is a major component of how you are perceived in the marketplace, how the customer chooses you, and their expectations of your product or service. Every project is different and has to not only look great, but also help define and differentiate you. By showcasing what makes you unique, we can strategically position you in the marketplace to attract your target audience. We give the core ideas & elements focus, providing the guidelines for the look, tone, feel and messaging that forms the visual foundation for your brand. During this phase there are plenty of opportunities for input and refinement, so that the final materials truly reflect your business and exceed expectations. Over time, as your brand grows and evolves, we’re here to help keep things consistent, while looking for ways to develop and push new ideas forward.

  • Release the amazing new materials into the world, evaluate their impact, and plan for the next exciting brand building project.

Every project is different, but it’s important to follow up on projects after they are released into the wild. What response are you getting?, what’s working well and can be expanded upon?, if something isn’t, how can that be improved? Your company is always changing and evolving with the needs of your customers, and so should your brand. With every project, we endeavour to keep things fresh, but also consistent, so that we can continuously build brand recognition, trust and loyalty. Over time, good marketing and branding not only builds a customer base, it can build a fan base! As one of our favourite marketing managers once said, “This is fantastic... now let’s do it again… even better.” - wise words indeed.

Say Something

Design not only communicates the messages of the brands we use every day, but also defines our experience and connection with those brands.

‘Saying Something’ is two fold. The first part is to distill your information into a clear and concise message that gets to the point and actually says something definitive that your audience can take action on. By digging a little deeper, we find the insights, style and creative approach that will resonate with your audience.

Once you know what you want to say, the second part is how you say it. By utilizing the principles of colour psychology, typography, images and visual hierarchy, we use design to get the message across while also ‘saying something’ about the brand’s overarching values, personality, and unique selling proposition. The power of design enhances recognition while also shaping the overall brand experience, not just for the immediate communications goals, but for the long term consistency and relationship your brand is building with customers.

In today’s hyperconnected world with too much choice and noise, your brand image and reputation is more valuable than ever. The days of traditional ‘selling’ are long gone, replaced with ‘attracting’ your audience. A well designed brand ‘says something’ about you, it lets people know what you’re all about, who you are best suited to help, and how choosing you reflects on them.

but to create a deeper connection it also needs to stand for something. That's because relationships are built on shared values, beliefs, and preferences. Exceptional brands have an essence that guides everything they do – a meaningful idea at the center of what makes them successful.

Design is more than what we see, it’s a thought process, it’s digging a little deeper to find the insights and connections that will resonate with your audience. It’s also distilling all of that into a focused message that gets to the point and actually says something definitive that your audience can take action on. Of course, colours, fonts, photography, code and creative writing are all part of it, but the real question is what are you trying to achieve? How does the design communicate the immediate message, but also reflect what the brand stands for? What impression are you giving the audience, what do you want them to feel, how does your product or service solve their problem, what do you want them to do and why? A big part of what we do is help clients define their goals and focus their message so that we can clearly identify the best ways to reach your audience. As designers, we know It’s the ideas behind the images that make all the difference in turning marketing and advertising into sales. Not just for the immediate communications goals, but for the long term consistency and relationship your brand is building with customers.

So many companies water down their message by trying to be everything to everyone, and end up saying nothing. We’re the best, we’re the mostest, blah, blah, blah. It doesn’t connect with the customer, it’s ‘salesy’, and tells them nothing about why you’re the best choice to help them. Let’s say you’re a plumbing company - Which is more memorable and will get someone to call you over the competition?

1) We’re the best plumbers in the city.

2) We’re the toilet whisperers, with a no gurgle guarantee.

Anyone can say they’re the ‘best’, but if a customer has a toilet problem, the second plumber will probably be their first call, plus it’s fun and memorable - I mean who doesn’t want a no gurgle guarantee?

Design is more than what we see, it’s a thought process, it’s digging a little deeper, it’s finding the insights and connections. From M&A: Stand For Something: Your brand has to stand out to get noticed, but to create a deeper connection it also needs to stand for something. That's because relationships are built on shared values, beliefs, and preferences. It takes courage, but the reward is worth it. It's how authentic, emotional, and sustainable connections are made. We excel at finding the emotional core of a brand and building out from the center of gravity to inspire greatness.

FROM CUE: Exceptional brands have an essence that guides everything they do. A meaningful idea at the center of what makes them successful. That essence is revealed in compelling ways to make them relevant in a changing world. Framing and revealing the essence of exceptional brands is what we do.

The Power of Design: Communicating a Brand's Essence to Engage Customers

In a world saturated with countless brands vying for attention, it has become increasingly imperative for design to go beyond mere aesthetics. Design, when utilized effectively, possesses the power to become a visual manifesto that not only represents a brand but also effectively communicates its essence and resonates with its customers. By embodying the brand's values, philosophy, and unique selling points, design has the potential to forge a deep emotional connection, foster brand loyalty, and ultimately drive business success.
Design as a Brand's Voice
Design acts as an ambassador for a brand, speaking volumes about its identity and character. It has the ability to leave a lasting impression on customers, making it essential to craft design strategies that are aligned with a brand's voice. Whether it's through visual elements such as colors, typography, or graphic elements, or through user experience and interface design, every aspect needs to harmoniously convey the desired message.
Establishing Brand Recognition
Design serves as a powerful catalyst in building brand recognition. Consider global giants like Apple or Nike — their logos alone are enough to evoke strong emotions and instant recognition. By consistently incorporating design elements that embody a brand's essence across all touchpoints, customers develop a subconscious association with those elements, making it easier to recognize and remember the brand. This recognition fuels the perception of reliability, trustworthiness, and credibility, enhancing customer loyalty and ultimately driving revenue growth.
Creating Authenticity and Differentiation
In a crowded marketplace, differentiation is key for a brand's success. Design acts as a vessel to portray a brand's uniqueness and authenticity. By strategically using design to communicate a brand's values, personality, and story, customers can connect on a much deeper level. Such an emotional bond cultivates a sense of trust, making it more likely for customers to choose a brand over its competitors. When design goes beyond superficial aesthetics and genuinely reflects the brand's identity, it reinforces the perception of a brand's integrity, setting it apart from the rest.
Engaging and Empowering Customers
Effective design empowers customers by creating memorable experiences, fostering brand loyalty, and increasing engagement. A well-designed product or website can enhance usability, making it easier for customers to navigate, interact, and connect with a brand. Additionally, design that aligns with a brand's target audience creates a sense of familiarity, resonating with their preferences and emotions. By integrating design that speaks to the customers on

The amount of time and resources we allocate to each phase of the design process depends on the scope and scale of the project. It begins with an in-depth analysis and understanding of the client's needs and objectives. This is followed by extensive research and exploration to gather inspiration and refine concepts. The next phase involves creating detailed visual representations and prototypes to communicate ideas. Iterative feedback loops with the client are essential to refine and finalize the design.
